Helaas is de W124T geen match voor de 30jaar jongere en zwaardere Volvo xc90, de bestuurder en zijn zwangere vrouw overlijden in de crash. In de Volvo zijn de passagiers gewond waarvan 1 in kritieke toestand. Waarschijnlijk kwam de Volvo op de weghelft van de Mercedes.

Naast de Mercedes-Benz zijn de Audi 100 en de Volvo de enige auto's waarbij het passagierscompartiment niet vervormd. Volvo, die erg veel om zijn veilige imago geeft, heeft echter het probleem dat er geen buigbare stuurkolom wordt gebruikt waardoor het stuur penetreert in de cabine.
Zelfs voor een moderne auto, doet de W124 deze test goed. De cabine vervormd niet en de klap wordt goed geabsorbeerd door de kreukelzone, met nog genoeg ruimte tot de cabine voor een crash op hogere snelheid (wat bij moderne auto's vaak niet het geval is).
