Zo te zien zijn de motorkap en het kofferbakdeksel gewisseld voor mopf2 exemplaren. Achterbumper zijn ze echter vergeten, de stootstrip bij een mopf2 loopt helemaal door tot de wielkasten, die van een pre mopf en mopf1 niet.
Bovendien zijn de stootstrips voor en achter zwart zoals bij een pre mopf en mopf1.

Ik vind bijna €9000,- te duur voor een 400E met zo'n hoge km-stand. Bovendien klopt er niets meer van het uiterlijk zoals Arjen al beschrijft. In de advertentie ook geen woord over boekjes, onderhoudshistorie of NAP/autopas. Ik zou als ik jou was lekker in Duitsland of CH gaan kijken voor een goede 400E die in originele staat verkeerd, mét boekjes erbij en onderhoudshistorie.

Ik zie nu zelf dat ze in Duitsland ook flink aan de prijs zijn tegenwoordig, en bovendien komen ze bijna allemaal uit oorspronkelijk Japan. Hoe het met die Japanse import zit en wat de voor- of nadelen zijn weet ik niet precies. Vijf jaar geleden kocht je een in topstaat verkerende originele 400E met maar 100.000km op de teller in Duitsland voor ±€10.000,- Die tijden zijn voorbij helaas. In CH staan er ook maar twee, één omgebouwde en een originele:

Ik heb vanmorgen een E420 gestart, en qua geluid gebeurde er inderdaad niet veel...

De auto moet rijklaar gemaakt worden, en zal er eens mee gaan rijden, ben benieuwd. Maar als het inderdaad niet veel met mijn 320E scheelt, ja dan denk ik dat ik deze laat staan, ook in het algemeen. Voor de inverstering hoef ik het ook niet te doen, zijn over schat een jaar of 10 niks meer waard oldtimers, en brandstofauto's in het algemeen...

Denk als je meer geluid wil je voor een E500/500E moet gaan. Die heeft ook de looks mee qua power en snelheid.
Mooie van een E420/400E is dat hij net zo snel is als een 500 maar eruit ziet als een 200D, een wolf in schaapskleren.
Eigenlijk veel leuker bij een stoplicht ;)
Smaken verschillen maar alleen daarom al vind ik persoonlijk een 400/420 mooier als een 500, eerstgenoemde ziet er gewoon chiquer uit, 500 krijgt gauw een aso bak uitstraling. Maar dat blijft natuurlijk een kwestie van smaak.

Ik vind beiden op zich erg geciviliseerd. 'k Zou ze nooit onder de noemer "uitzonderlijk" catalogeren wanneer het aankomt op snelheid of prestaties (wel voor hun leeftijd).

Het geluid van een 500E blijft uiteindelijk ook dat van een gewone V8 van Benz. de E50-55 tapte uit een heel andere vaatje nadien. En de 6.2 nog meer.
Ik moet hoogdringend het aantal wagens beginnen verminderen.

Bedankt voor jullie berichten ;)

Met een ander uitlaatsysteem, valt denk ook wel een ander geluid te behalen, ik bedoel dan, dat je op die manier de V8 meer tot zijn recht kan laten klinken. Maar ik hou erg van origineel.

Blijf de 400E, een hele mooie uitvoering blijven :)

Zullen de verschillen echt niet veel uitmaken qua snelheid en rijden, in een 400E en een 500E ?

Een 500 heeft natuurlijk nog wel ff meer vermogen hè
de 400: 279 PK, de 500: 326 PK
Die van onze "Hakie" heeft nieuwe Kats er onder laten maken, die geeft een prachtig geluid. Jaa dat maakt wel verschil ja

De "gewone" 400/420 rijdt echt wel heel anders dan de 500. Normale comfortabele vering. Mijn sportline neigt al iets meer naar de 500, al is het nog steeds verre van dat. De 500 heeft een ander onderstel, niveau regeling op de achteras, meer pk's met een andere boardcomputer. Al met al niet te vergelijken.

Mooi stukje over de rij eigenschappen van de E500/500E:

If I ever drive an E60, i'll have to have the money to buy it, because I don't want anything sexier to take away from the unconditional love I have for my E500.

In the UK, we have to keep below 90mph pretty much all the time. Some motorways have less surveillance than others, same with the A-roads, but the time is coming where we'll be continually watched by cameras . As I get older, I'm appreciating more and more driving slowly, especially in the 500. A couple of weeks ago I was driving back from my kid's school - a good 2.5 hours in the car, and I purposely drove slowly - on or around 60mph all the way. I exulted in the new feel of the car. The smoothness, and the response from a little push on the accelerator and the feel of reeling it back in... (it's the only car i've ever really enjoyed driving in my stockinged feet)

Having said that - the UK didn't sign a European treaty of some kind that meant that speeding offenders could be chased back to their homes in England, so basically if you're not caught by a real policeman with a radar gun in Europe, you'll be ok.. If you are caught however, you can expect to be punished.

So without abusing the privilege (because who wants Johnny Foreigner speeding through your country at 140mph?) I did have several opportunities to drive the car fast in Europe on my trip from the UK to Italy last Christmas. Whereas in England you have to take your foot off the pedal at 100mph or you risk losing your licence, in France and Italy there's the freedom, occasionally, to do that.

The car completely changes character above 100mph. It becomes tighter and the engine snarls and you feel/hear another side to the car completely. From 100 to 120/130 and very occasionally beyond (I had a stint in Germany on the way back) it's like the car is completely made for those speeds. It hunkers down, like 911s, you lose very little of the quietness or comfort of course, but what you feel through the wheel and the suspension is magical, it was sublime, sporty, requiring full concentration like any brilliant sports car, communicating and making you forget completely that it's a saloon.

While I was looking to buy, I spoke to a very kind gentleman that said the E500 he had was better than his 5-year old Aston. He was fully aware of how that sounded, doubtful and absurd when he told me, but after a couple of thousand miles in the car in Europe I can only imagine that he was absolutely right. I'm so happy I didn't get a Continental GT instead.....
