Over ongeveer 6 weken vertrek ik met mijn 300E uit 1986 naar St. Petersburg. Ik ga niet alleen, mijn vriendin is er ook bij, en onderweg komen er mensen bij en gaan er weer mensen naar huis. We rijden niet in 1 ruk door, we doen er ongeveer 2,5e week over. Daarna gaan we vanuit Letland met de boot weer terug. Onderweg pak ik alles mee wat ik de moeite vind om te zien, waardoor het een erg gevarieerde reis geworden is.

De route is, in grove lijnen, Rotterdam - Berlijn - Wroclaw - Krakau - Warschau - Bialystok - Vilnius - Pskov - Veliki Novgorod - St. Petersburg - Tallinn - Riga - Bremen - Rotterdam

Ik ben heel de wereld al over geweest (met het vliegtuig dan) maar Oost Europa heb ik nog nooit gezien. Wel heb ik veel rij-ervaring over heel de wereld (West-Europa, Zuid-Europa, Thailand, Peru, Amerika, Canada...) en hoop ik een juiste inschatting te kunnen maken van het Russische verkeer. Tips wat betreft het rijden zijn altijd welkom!

Verder probeer ik op vakantie altijd wel wat mooie foto's te maken van de auto. De auto gaat over een week voor een controle naar de garage, er komen nieuwe banden onder en dan moet de auto klaar zijn. Als de reis begint zal ik wat foto's plaatsen.

Kijk eens dat is mooi zo n reis en met de Benz moet het wel gaan lukken ik blijf jullie volgen op je reis door Oost Europa als vast veel plezier

Ik heb er geen ervaring mee exact daar maar ik weet wel dit
Zou er voor zorgen voor onderstel en banden en wielophanging etc alles op orde te hebben... check je fuseekogels en veerschotels , schokbrekers, remslangen voor ook even
Wegen daar zijn stukken slechter qua gaten en bumps etc
De W124 is meestal relatief makkelijk te repareren ( ook voor garages daar) , en je kunt zelfs wat lichte vervangingsdelen meenemen. Uiteraard zowieso standaardspul zoals tyraps, ductape, motorolie , kvs, etc.
Het verkeer is anders, soms wat link, naar mijn idee wat meer road rage ( geen middelvinger gebruiken....is ALTIJD een slecht idee geloof me) en alcohol dus een dashcam is echt geen gek id.
Relatief veel mensen hebben die daar. Ivm het voelbalgebeuren zijn de hotelprijzen trouwens een beetje belachelijk vaak...

Dank! Schokbrekers, spoorstangen, rubbers en dergelijke zijn vorig jaar allemaal vervangen. Volgende week komene r nieuwe banden op de auto. Olie en koelvloeistof gaat ook mee, tyraps en ductape had ik niet aan gedacht, goede tip!

Een dashcam twijfel ik nog over. Ik vrees dat het uiteindelijk niets uit gaat maken mocht er iets dramatisch gebeuren, ik vraag mij af hoeveel ik er aan heb als bewijslast. Iemand enig idee?

Ik ben in 2000 met eigen auto naar St Peet geweest. Een fantastische vakantie.
Afgelopen November ben ik voor mijn werk in St Peet geweest en met de auto tot tegen de Estse grens onderweg geweest.
Keurige wegen, ze rijden goed door maar geen rare toestanden. In de steden wordt het geaccepteerd als je voordringt.
Dit went snel.

We hebben hotels in Veliki Novgorod en St. Petersburg. Het visum wordt aan gewerkt, de verzekering ga ik volgende week over bellen. Wat is jouw advies met betrekking tot de grens over gaan?

Wat betreft rijden in Rusland, gewoon rustig rijden en zeker niet door rood rijden of ergens in rijden.
Was toen zelf twee keer aangehouden - 1x vanwege te hard rijden maar de man wilde gewoon geld. Ik bleef dom doen en toen zn maatje/baas eraan kwam mocht ik doorrijden.
Tweede keer nam ik een afslag nadat het licht op groen ging, moest toen eerst alle auto's voorlaten voor rechtdoor. Daarna was licht op rood en sloeg ik af dus aangehouden. Dom gedaan , begreep het niet, proberen uit te leggen in Engels/duits, en mocht daarna gaan.

Weet dat het vooral dat het 5 uur duurde om Witrusland in te komen vanwege alle papierwerk. Wel een fantastische ervaring dus ik wens je ook ongelofelijk veel plezier.

Veel Russen hebben ook zo'n ding, dat is niet zonder reden.
Al twijfel je over het nut ervan mocht je het nodig hebben, ik vind het ook leuk om achteraf de mooie stukken van de route nog eens te kunnen zien.

Zou niet alleen vertrouwen op plastic geld. Money talks. Handjevol cash euro’s of dollars dus.....Wellicht ten overvloede.....

De auto heeft vorig jaar nieuwe spoorstangen en rubbers gehad. Is vervolgens uitgelijnd, en toen gelijk de stalling in gegaan. Goed, die banden waren dus hartstikke vierkant. Even nieuwe banden erop gezet en toen rammelde het een stuk minder in de auto. Het stuurt nog steeds niet zo goed als de coupe die ik heb, maar dat zien we na de vakantie wel weer. De auto moet nu gewoon betrouwbaar zijn.

Onder de auto rammelde het sinds hij uit de stalling kwam steeds erger. Op de spoorstangen leek wat speling te zitten, andere er onder gezet en het probleem was er nog steeds. Diagnose? De uitlaat lag een halve centimeter scheef in de beugel. Vorig jaar trokken de achterdempers het gewicht van de aanhangwagen al niet zo goed. Dat bleek ook wel, want alles hing scheef en had op de straat gehangen. Hopelijk is het gerammel nu definitief opgelost, het is al eens vaker geweest dat het pas een week nadat hij van de brug kwam weer terug was...

Ik moet wel zeggen dat de auto een hoop kost de laatste tijd. Niet aan slijtage, puur aan ouderdom. Alle rubbers zijn op. De auto lekt wat maar de lekkage is niet te vinden. Bij een grote inspectie kwam de monteur er achter dat de waterpomp staat te lekken bij stilstand, dus die mag ook nog even worden vervangen want ook die rubbers zijn versleten. Nu nog de koelproblemen oplossen en we zijn klaar voor Rusland. Er zit inmiddels een andere visco-koppeling in want de temperatuur liep vorig jaar al hard op. Na het uitblazen van de radiateur was het even opgelost maar afgelopen week was dramatisch en kreeg de auto het niet aan gekoeld in de file. En anders gaat er nog een andere radiateur in. Ook die kan na 32 jaar gewoon te oud zijn, toch?

Tips wat betreft de problemen zijn altijd welkom, we gaan over 2,5e week weg dus de tijd begint wat te dringen.

Veel reis genot gewenst.
Betreffende de koeling, radiator kan dichtslibben van de ouderdom. Zou deze toch vervangen.
En stilstand is achteruitgang. Het lager van mijn waterpomp van mij W123 280E is ook stuk door stilstand....

Mooi dat je goed voorbereid op vakantie gaat het is wel een erg mooie 300E ook van mij alvast een fijne vakantie

Prachtig zo’n onderneming, ik heb in de zomer ook altijf min 5k km europa doorgereden met de Benz. Heerlijk.

Nog een tip vanuit mijn zijde.
Ga niet bij Görlitz Polen (A4) in, dan rijdt je over 70km aan betonplaten met een flinke rand erin.
Dat heb ik vorige week mogen meemaken......de hersenen van mijn gezin liggen iig weer los en fris in de hersenpan
Het is echt irritant op gegeven moment.

Excuses excuses voor het gebrek aan updates. Het is zó enorm warm en de airco werkt niet dus ik ben aan het eind van de dag een beetje te suf om te internetten.

De auto doet het verder prima. Vol gas over de autobahn hebben we inmiddels de 220 aangetikt en dat kost wat moeite. Niet omdat de auto zo traag is maar vooral vanwege al die wegwerkzaamheden hier. Wat mij overigens wel opvalt is dat Duitsers fijne chauffeurs zijn. Zodra je de grens over gaat bij Nederland zijn het constant de Nederlanders die te langzaam invoegen, te veel links rijden en je er niet tussen laten omdat "zij wel bepalen of jij 180 rijd in plaats van 130, wat hun snelheid is". Verder is het verbruik van de auto ook erg netjes, 1:10,3 is het beste, 1:8,2 het slechtste. Over het algemeen zit op de 1:9 wat echt niet verkeerd is waarbij je denkt dat we ook een heel stuk met 5 volwassenen en een volle kofferbak hebben gereden.

Rond Berlijn heb ik wat foto's gemaakt die wellicht wat posters hier ook leuk zullen vinden. Ik ben daar naar Classic Remise geweest, 1 van de 3 vestigingen in Duitsland die oldtimers opknappen en verkopen. Ook kun je hier je klassieker stallen en in de verkoop zetten. In tegenstelling tot de vestiging in Stuttgart en Dusseldorf heb je hier het gevoel dat je door de werkplaats loopt.

De garage waar alleen maar Benzen worden gemaakt. Erg veel variatie zo, de auto links is een 300 met Gullwing deuren, deze moet voor minstens 500.000 Euro weg gaan wanneer de restauratie klaar is.

Een W126 in concoursstaat. Deze auto had zo'n 220.000 kilometer gelopen volgens mij. Bijna alle opties zaten erop.

We zitten inmiddels in Polen en gaan vandaag Litouwen in. De Poolse wegen zijn over het algemeen goed, op 1 weg na, waarbij er bij de achterbumper iets losgetrilt is. Niet te geloven dat ze hier jaren overheen gereden hebben, dat moet niet te doen geweest zijn. Er wordt hier ook heel veel gebouwd aan nieuwe snelwegen, zoveel dat ze eigenlijk mensen tekort hebben, heb ik begrepen. Over een jaar of 10 denk ik dat dit netwerk alweer dichtgeslibt is, zo druk is het inmiddels op sommige nieuwe wegen al.

Wellicht dat ik binnenkort nog wat meer tijd heb om dingen te plaatsen.

Je hebt erg mooie Benzen gezien daar in Berlijn er staan er wel een paar tussen die mij ook wel lijken

Ik vind over het algemeen de Duitsers ook beter rijden dan hier bij het invoegen op de snelweg geven ze net zo lang gas tot ze met de stroom mee rijden i.p.v. invoegen met 70 km per uur.
