Vanmiddag vertrok ik vanuit Naaldwijk naar huis. Ik verliet het gemeentehuis, op weg naar mijn auto. Daar ontwaarde ik naast mijn C124 een hele dikke S-klasse (W223), 350d Lang AMG Line. Bijna hagelnieuw, zo bleek na het checken van het kenteken. Voorzien van alle mogelijke luxe, met zeer fraai licht beige leer.

Deze mastodont weegt 1940 kg schoon aan de haak (valt me eigenlijk nog wel mee) en kost in deze uitvoering een slordige €182.946,-...er zijn dagen dat het niet op mijn rekening staat

Vooropgesteld het feit dat ook ik zo'n nieuwe S niet kan betalen: een knappe W124 kan mij toch meer bekoren.
Het front van de S is al niet mijn ding.

Best een leuk vergelijk die twee zo broederlijk naast elkaar. Maar nee, ik ben het helemaal eens met de vorige spreker Harold. Sterker nog, ik vind zo'n W223 een afzichtelijk lelijke patser bak, en al helemáál met licht beige bekleding. Geen enkel nieuw Benz model kan mij trouwens bekoren (en dat roep ik al meer dan 20 jaar, ha ha). Het summum op S-klasse gebied is voor mij nog altijd W116 (een fraai gerestaureerde dan, bijvoorbeeld een 450 SEL 6.9) of W126 (500SEL is méér dan goed genoeg). De latere W140 (Helmuth Kohl) is aan mij niet besteed, hoe goed die ook was. Wat daarná komt vind ik echt allemaal heel erg verschrikkelijk. En wat de E-klasse betreft: ná de 124 is het niet meer acceptabel. Dus van deze geportretteerde twee kies ik onmiddellijk de coupé van Nan.

Persoonlijk vind ik de nieuwe S wel een mooie wagen maar ik word er niet hebberig van.

Ik heb sinds 2015 een W124 Cabrio (A124 dus). Later kocht ik in 2017 een nieuwe S500 Cabrio (V8) erbij. Dat is een auto die heerlijk rijdt en mooi afgewerkt is. Ik voelde me eigenlijk beter in de A124 en die geeft me ook meer plezier.

Uiteindelijk is de S500 weer verkocht en daar heb ik nog geen moment spijt van. De A124 is wel een blijvertje.

Van de nieuwe modellen spreekt de W463 me het meeste aan. Ik wil binnenkort eens een proefrit maken. Als het windgeruis (ivm recht opstaande voorruit) me meevalt, is de kans groot dat ik een zwarte G400D koop.

Ik ga helemaal met je mee met de W463 maar zwart is je laatste kleur, ik stap niet eens in.

Mijn echtgenote rijdt nu al 14 jaar in een G. Windgeruis, ach dat valt heel erg mee. Waar je aan moet wennen is het gestuiter, niet bepaald soepel geveerd. Maar het lekker hoog zitten, echt klauteren om er in te komen is fantastisch. En; na weekeinde stilstand zijn de banden vierkant, de eerste snelweg km zijn soms ook wat ruig. Tikken nu de 350k aan, beleving nog steeds als toen we hem uit de winkel haalden, op alle fronten. Gewoon doen en je baard laten staan ........

Klinkt goed, Eric.

Ik heb online veel gelezen en gekeken over de G. Het nieuwe model schijnt ruimer, comfortabeler en ook stiller (de voorruit staat iets schuiner). Is een compleet nieuw ontwikkelde wagen.

Hoog zitten bevalt zeker goed, ik rijd al jaren Range Rover. Sinds 3 jaar deze, een Range Rover SDV8 Autobiography full options uit 2018. Ik houd hem erbij als gezinsauto:

Dit is em (niet de baard van mijn vrouw, wel haar G-spot zoals ik hem noem)
320CDI van 2007, als demo gekocht en maar blijven rijden. Onderhoud valt best mee maar na dagje serieus off-road waarbij we echt soms op 2 wielen balanceerden, moesten de chassisrubbers vervangen worden. En een keer een stuurhuis. Zaken waar dit blok om bekend staat (rubbertjes oliekoeler, turbo) nog geen last gehad. En dat terwijl de dame maar twee standen kent: vol gas of bijna vol gas....
Maar ideale vrachtwagen, zeker in de winter
